'Hunger Games': Finnick Casting Might Be Farther Off Than We Thought
by Andy NeuenschwanderEven just a few days ago, it seemed as though the role of Finnick Odair in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" was all but locked down. Rumor had it that only three actors were being considered for the part: Taylor Kitsch, Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer.
Of course, if you leave a rumor out on the Internet, it's likely to get squashed.
The LA Times caught up with "Catching Fire" producer Nina Jacobsen over the weekend and asked her about the casting rumors. Her response was less than encouraging for those who were hoping to see one of the three aforementioned hunks in the role. "People are way ahead of where we are," Jacobsen said. "We've not narrowed things down by any means."
However, Jacobsen admitted that Internet rumors might help the decision somewhat: "It means something that people can see [an actor] in that light, so you know [the actor] will be accepted by a lot of people." However, Jacobsen also noted that her job is really to go off of the audition and find the person who "feels most like the part."
We can definitely count Kitsch out: the actor said himself that he won't be taking the role. Hedlund and Hammer are apparently still possibilities. You can also add "X-Men: First Class" star Lucas Till, "90210" star Trevor Donovan, and "Smallville" star Alan Ritchson to the list as well.
